Expo 2020 Dubai built a custom Minecraft world with Microsoft, letting visitors explore the Expo’s themes (Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity) digitally. For New Year’s Eve, WithFeeling composed the original music and sonic identity for an online NYE event hosted entirely inside that Minecraft world.
THE CHALLENGE
Score a New Year’s Eve celebration hosted entirely inside Minecraft, for a world expo connecting millions of visitors across continents. The music had to feel like Expo 2020 Dubai (premium, optimistic, modern) while also landing inside Minecraft’s blocky, playful audio world. And it still had to feel like a global NYE moment, not a video-game cutscene.
THE APPROACH
WithFeeling wrote a piece that bridged both worlds: orchestral lift and uplifting melodic motifs for the Expo brand, threaded with playful chiptune-adjacent textures and clean transitions that respected Minecraft’s distinctive sound DNA. Built to flex around the countdown, the celebration moments and the midnight crescendo.
THE RESULT
An original score for one of the most unusual NYE events of the year: a fully online New Year’s Eve hosted inside Minecraft for Expo 2020 Dubai. The music gave the moment its lift, helped the Expo brand land inside a new digital playground, and made a Minecraft event feel like a proper New Year.
