MBRL: DARE TO DREAM, A SONIC IDENTITY FOR A LIBRARY SHAPED LIKE A REHL
Mohammed Bin Rashid Library overlooks Dubai Creek, built in the shape of a Rehl, the traditional wooden bookrest used to hold the Quran. WithFeeling composed “Dare to Dream”, a sonic identity built around a distinctive six-note musical hook designed to embody the library’s values: Passionate, Imaginative, Impactful, Inspiring, Magical and Creative.
THE CHALLENGE
Build a sonic identity for one of the region’s most architecturally and culturally iconic libraries. The sound had to pay tribute to the rich Arabic history MBRL exists to preserve, while feeling as modern and ambitious as the building itself, and flex across every moment the library lives in: corporate, ceremonial, children’s spaces, Ramadan.
THE APPROACH
WithFeeling built the identity around a distinctive six-note musical hook that signals MBRL on first listen, paying homage to Arabic heritage while reflecting the library’s modern significance. From that core we developed a full system of variations: a corporate version, an orchestral arrangement, a gala dinner cut, a Ramadan version, and a major-key, double-time children’s adaptation reimagined to feel playful and inviting for younger audiences.
THE RESULT
A complete sonic identity that gives Mohammed Bin Rashid Library a single recognisable voice across every context it serves: corporate moments, children’s hours, gala dinners, Ramadan. “Dare to Dream” turns the library’s values into something audible, built in close partnership with Amal Hashim Malik Alblooshi and the MBRL team throughout.
